When it comes to travel, you’re always going to have your own way of doing things. You may not realise it, but you probably have a habit of how you do this, from how you book your travel to how you enjoy it. At the same time you may find that you want to have a little more control over things. And again, that’s just natural too. Because sometimes, you don’t just want to spread your money equally over everything. Or, you may even want to spend a lot of money on everything – but you know that you don’t have the budget. So what do you do? Let’s take a look at some suggestions on how to balance splurging with saving when you travel!
Splurge: The Location
So first of all, we’re going to think about the place that you’re going to. Because some places are always going to be expensive to travel to and to stay in, and others are going to be so much cheaper all around. However, never let this put you off if you can help it. If you let it get to you, you may find that you miss out on going to a location that you’ve always wanted to go. So, when you first start out, make sure that you’re okay with the cost of wherever it is that you want to go to.
Save: The Transport
So next, there’s the transportation. Sometimes, you might want to get a first-class or luxury flight. But we’re assuming that you’re trying to balance your budget, and we all know how expensive this kind of travel can be. So, in the interest of balancing out your budget in the most cost-effective way, we’re going to save save on this cost. Try to get for really budget-friendly transport so that you can allocate more money elsewhere.
Then, there’s all of the travel essentials that we all need. It can be easy to think that you need expensive luggage or travel toiletries, but if you cut back on these costs, then you’re going to have more to allocate to the next two points. Splurge: The Accommodation
When it comes to going all out, then definitely do so with your accommodation if you love to stay in nice places. Don’t feel guilty going for the luxury apartment to rent in Marbella for the five star hotel to stay at in Miami. If you’re saving more money elsewhere, then it’s great to be able to allocate it here.
If you don’t mind roughing it, then you can always choose the cheaper options such as hostels or camping.
Splurge: The Experience
Finally, you should definitely make sure that you spend on the experiences you have when you travel too. Now, you know that travel in itself is a great investment, but you really do have to weight up where you want to invest. Now, if you were to spend all of your budget on the flight and your luggage and the accommodation, then when you get to the location, you may find that you just have to sit in the hotel room because you can’t afford to go out! So this is why you find a balance, so you have enough money to allocate to the things you want to do when you get there.
Hopefully this will help you budget for that next big trip you are about to go on. Remember, memories last longer than materials and coffins don’t have pockets, so make sure you experience everything you can!
