Location of Jack’s Alt Stays
The location of Jack’s Alt Stays is perfect if you are travelling from Glasgow and want to use public transport. It is extremely easy to get to by train, reaching Largs train station after 1 hour and then making the short 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal. The ferry from Largs to Millport takes 8 minutes and runs every 15-30 minutes during the day.
Alternatively, you can bring your car to Millport on the ferry, however, when you stay at Jack’s Alt-Stays, you are so close to the town and you can even rent bicycles so you won’t really need it.
When you arrive onto Millport, there is a bus service that takes you into the small town centre.
Relax in the Lounge
In The Hive, we had a very comfortable couch and foot rest which looked out a large window to the grass where you can often see rabbits jumping around outside. On the wall there is a pull out smart tv which is connected to a Netflix account meaning you don’t need to create a new password when you can’t remember your own to log in with.
If you are wanting to charge your devices, there are plenty of charging points around the cabin, both USB and 3 pin plugs, placed exactly where you need them.
The interior inside the cabin is very modern and they are decorated with ornaments and photos relating to the hive. There is an incredible art mural on the wall by Katie Forbes and the shelving is in the shape of a bee hive. The infrared heating is a nice addition, keeping the well insulated cabin nice and warm.
Unwind in the Bedroom
The cabin is open plan, apart from the bathroom, the bedroom is separated from the lounge area with a small kitchen area. The double bed is extremely comfortable and there is unique shelving area with charging points behind the bed for additional storage overnight.
There is room underneath the bed to store your belongings and hooks hidden behind the bed to hang up your jackets.
Get Naked in the Bathroom
Each cabin has it’s own en-suite bathroom with an incredible waterfall hot shower. To save you bringing your own, luxurious bath towels and hand towels are included in the cabin, as well as Isle of Arran shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
There is a heated towel rail and mirror in the bathroom as well so you can make the room nice and toasty for when you need to drag yourself out of the lovely hot shower.
Cook up a Feast in the Kitchen
Each cabin is fitted with a small, well equipped kitchen area, complete with utensils, a microwave, oven, kettle and toaster. There is also a small fold out table that sits neatly in the shelving unit and can be pulled out to dine at.
The seats can be found in the cupboard. There is also a fridge and small freezer for you to store your food.
Soak in the Hot Tub
Enjoy the experience of lighting your own wood-fired hot tub in your private area outside of your cabin. In the cabin you will find an instruction manual and some coffee logs (made from recycled coffee) and fire lighters. Setting up the hot tub takes around 2-3 hours and once it is hot enough, you can get in, relax and watch the stars.
There are dressing gowns hanging on the hooks behind the bed that you can wear out to the hot tubs.
Overview of our Stay at The Jack’s Alt Stays
Jack’s Alt Stays is a lovely bit of luxury on the Isle of Cumbrae. We were given a very warm welcome from the Daniel and Adam and had a very comfortable and relaxing stay in The Hive. We spend all of our time in the cabin and the hot tub. The kitchen was very easy to cook in with plenty of utensils and didn’t feel too small.
Jack’s Alt Stays is a fantastic unique accommodation on the Isle of Cumbrae that we can highly recommend.
