Fiordo di Furore

What is Fiordo di Furore?

A fjord is a deep and long, narrow body of water that flows far inland. In 1997, the small town of Furore was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most beautiful and quaint places in Italy. The name Furore comes from Latin meaning Terra Furoris (Land of Fury) as the waves crashing off the cliffs created a deafening sound.

The Fiordo Di Furore is located near the small town of Furore and has been created by the Schiato torrent whic flows between the cliffs and overtime has created a valley that opens to the sea.

There is a tall picturesque bridge that looks down on the Fiordo and the small rocky Fiordo di Furore beach at the end of some steep steps. This is one of the most fun places to go swimming on the Amalfi Coast as the water is incredibly blue and there are a lot of great spots to jump into the deep water. Fiordo di Furore Beach is small so if you want to visit, we would recommend going early.

How to get to Fiordo di Furore from Positano?

From Positano, you can take the 5070 bus to Fiordo di Furore which takes around 35 minutes. You can get on the bus from outside Hotel Casa Albertine.

How to get to Fiordo di Furore from Amalfi?

The 5070 and 5080 bus leaves from the town centre of Amalfi to Fiordo di Furore and takes around 20 minutes to get there.

Where is Fiordo Di Furore?

Fiordo Di Furore is located located in the small town of Furore, under the State Road 163 between Praiano and Conca dei Marini. It is recognisable for being beneath the tall arched bridge.

Fiordo Di Furore is around a 20 minute drive from Amalfi and 40 minutes from Positano.

Many boat tours pull in to Fiordo Di Furore to take photos, this is another great angle for photography.

If you are looking for a good bag for your time exploring Furore, we can highly recommend the Wandrd Bag PRVKE 41L, especially if you are carrying camera equipment around. If you are looking for a smaller backpack, The Nest by Tropicfeel is one of the most comfortable bags I have ever owned and perfect for a day out.

How to get to Fiordo Di Furore?

In our opinion, the best way to get to Fiordo Di Furore is by bus. There is very limited parking nearby and the narrow roads make it very dangerous to walk along.

The buses are frequent and stop on the bridge so you don’t have to walk along any of the road. Bus tickets can be purchased from newspaper stands, or anywhere that displays the SITA logo. We preferred to download the app and buy our tickets that way. The app that you can download your tickets from is the Unico Campania, which can be found here.

When you get off the bus, you will see a lot of stone stairs cascading down towards the small beach. The Fiordo can be viewed from the 30 metre towering bridge suspended above where you will see the crystal clear sparking water.

Why Should You go to Fiordo Di Furore?

Fiordo Di Furore is one of the best things to do on the Amalfi Coast due to how picturesque unique it is to the area. Many people enjoy jumping off the side of the cliffs into the stunning crystal clear water (do this at your own risk) and others will just enjoy lounging on the beach listening to the waves crash onto the rocky shore below.

It costs €7.50 per sun lounger without an umbrella which is one of the cheaper places to rent a sun lounger along the Amalfi Coast. If you would rather, you can sit on your towel against the rocks on the beach instead.

When Should You go to Fiordo di Furore?

The best time to visit Fiordo Di Furore is before 10am if you want to get there before the direct sunlight hits as this is a great time to take some photos before the lighting is too harsh and also a great time to get a good spot on the beach. This sun shines on Fiordo Di Furore from late morning until early afternoon so it is a good place to go if you are not a fan of direct sunlight, especially during the hot summer weather.

Fiordo Di Furore is also one of the most popular places to visit on the Amalfi Coast so it will get busy very quickly.

Don’t forget to pack your beach towel and suncream for the beach!

  • Visit Positano: Positano is one of the most famous and popular towns on the Amalfi Coast, and for good reason. Its winding, narrow streets are lined with colourful houses and shops, and it’s the perfect place to explore on foot. One day in Positano will allow you to take a stroll along the beach, climb up to the top of the town for panoramic views, and indulge in some of the best gelato you’ll ever taste.

  • Go on a boat tour: The Amalfi Coast is even more impressive when viewed from the water. Book a boat tour and admire the stunning coastline, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and visit hidden coves and grottoes.

  • Explore Ravello: Ravello is a peaceful and charming hilltop town with stunning views of the coast. Visit the Villa Cimbrone and its beautiful gardens, walk through the picturesque Piazza del Vescovado, and take in the stunning vistas from the terrace of the Villa Rufolo.

  • Visit Pompeii: While not technically on the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii is just a short drive away and is one of the most fascinating and historically significant sites in Italy. The ancient city was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and the ruins offer a glimpse into life during the Roman Empire.

  • Beach hop: The Amalfi Coast has no shortage of beautiful beaches, from small hidden coves to long stretches of sand. Visit Marina di Praia, Furore, and Spiaggia del Duoglio for a taste of the different beach experiences the coast has to offer.

What is the Best Travel Insurance for Italy

We know travel insurance is the least enjoyable thing to purchase and look at when you’re planning a trip, however, you wouldn’t want to be without it in the event that something happened. Accidents can happen anywhere and the extortionate medical bills will ruin your trip if you are not covered.

To ensure you have a stress-free trip with no worries about potential medical bills, make sure you cover yourself when you travel. We can recommend using SafetyWing, a backpacker-friendly and cheap insurance company that provides good coverage and support. It is also nomad-friendly, unlike most other insurance companies, meaning you do not need to worry about being out of your home country for too long.

What Should You Pack for your trip to the Amalfi Coast?

What you need to pack for Amalfi Coast will rely highly on when you make your trip to Italy. During the Spring and Autumn months, temperatures and weather patterns vary wildly between beautiful sunny skies and rainy days. During the Summer, you are pretty much guaranteed nice weather with temperatures ranging from 20-35 oC. The hottest months are July and August, so these will be the most popular for a Summer holiday.

During the Winter months in the Amalfi Coast, the weather can go as low as freezing, so make sure you wrap up warm if you are coming between October and April. If you need more inspiration on what to pack for your trip, check out our full packing guides for all-weather conditions over here.

When it comes to toiletries, we recommend that you don’t forget to pack sunscreen. The sun in Italy is very strong, especially during the summer months. Apply a lot of cream regularly to prevent a nasty burn from ruining your trip. We use this specific sunscreen to protect us as it is not as oily and irritating as other sunscreens.

Given the beautiful sights and scenery that you will see in Italy, we highly recommend packing a good camera for your trip. If you want to read more about the cameras we use and why we love them, check out the link below.
