Up Helly Aa is a tradition held every year in Shetland between January and March but the main and largest event is held on the last Tuesday in January. We rounded off our January adventures with this incredible festival and will be sharing all we learnt in this newsletter below.

The Wildest Week of of Lives
Last month we told you that we had caught a ferry to the edge of the world, travelling 14hrs to the very north of the British Isles and landing on the Isles of Shetland. Little did we know that this quick stopover at 60o north would stick in our minds as the wildest and most incredible week of our lives.
It all started when we disembarked the boat in our motorhome and made for the main town of Lerwick to rendevous with our good friend Laurie (@ShetlandwithLaurie on IG). We quickly settled into island life and were shown what is what by our personal tour guide before we headed off to explore the best that the island had to offer. Well that was the plan anyway..
Horizontal rain and hurricane force winds soon put a stop to our island wide adventures, especially after a very close call we had with Ellie nearly getting blown off the road. Despite the weather, however, we still managed to see and do a LOT around the southern end of the island, including going beach hunting around St Ninian’s Isle, driving across the Sumburgh Airport runway, pony whispering with the local Shetlands, and of course, witnessing the world famous fire festival known as Up Helly Aa.
It is difficult to put into words just how wacky, wild, and unbelievable the past week has been and we cannot recommend a January trip to the most remote islands in Scotland to every one of you. The weather is going to be far from perfect, but the warm welcome you will receive from the locals is enough to heat anyone up.
The full story is now out on our YouTube channel and here are some of the best photos that we captured so far in this unforgettable week.
The Motorhome and Campervan Show – NEC Birmingham
In the middle of February, we made the journey south once again to the NEC Motorhome and Campervan Show to face the blinding lights of the Inspiration Stage. As it was our second time up on this stage, we felt a lot more confident with our talks and we absolutely loved every minute of it.
If you managed to make it to the exhibition and came up to say hi to us or just came to listen to us blabber on about Scotland, thank you from the bottom of hearts. We always love to see so many people inspired to visit our bonnie home country and we love to hear the stories that you have to tell of your adventures.
Our next round of talks will be at Campervan Campout at the South of England Showground on the first weekend of May and we look forward to seeing you there!
Here’s a wee photo of us meeting Will Mellor after his talk.
Solo Trip to Antalya
To round off February, Campbell jetted off on a solo trip to Antalya with Jet2 on a press trip experience (Gemma was sadly too busy working in nursing, which will be a common occurrence this year to get her Revalidation hours in!).
What is next for us?
Heading into March, we are embarking on one of most exciting adventures yet as we jet across the pond to the Big Apple and beyond. We will be spending a few days exploring NYC before continuing west to the city that never sleeps, Las Vegas where we are speaking on a panel at a travel event. From here we will be picking up a campervan and driving it all the way up the California coastline to San Francisco, before hopping up into Canada to explore Banff National Park.
This is the first time we have ever explored the USA and we are hyped for it beyond belief! A campervan roadtrip up the west coast has always been on our bucketlist and we cannot wait to bring you along on the adventure!
If you have any tips or sights that we need to see in any of the above places please let us know by replying to this email and we can try our best to add them into our itinerary.
Until then, you can catch up with us on Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, and of course, our (almost weekly) Youtube videos.
Take care
