Marble Bay Hidden Beach in Guernsey

What is Marble Bay?

Marble Bay is a rocky bay located near Jerbourg Peninsula. It is a bit of a walk to reach the bay meaning it is on the quieter beaches to visit in Guernsey. This makes visiting even more pleasant as you are completely surrounded by nature, it really is a paradise.

Due to the tides in Guernsey being so dramatic, you will need to make sure you check the tide times before you leave as the beach may become inaccessible at high tide. The beach is steep therefore when you are getting in the water it will become deep very quickly. We would advise bringing water shoes with you if you plan on going in the water at Marble Bay.

Where is Marble Bay?

Marble Bay is located on the east side of Guernsey along the south coast cliff walk. It is a secluded bay situated between Bec du Nez and Jerbourg. The nearest facilities are at Jerbourg where you will find a kiosk, toilets and the Jerbourg Hotel. Surrounded by towering cliffs, Marble Bay feels very isolated in the middle of the coast.

How to get to Marble Bay?

You can either start the cliff walk from Fermain Bay or Jerbourg. There is no parking at Fermain so the best option if you are coming from this direction, would be to get the bus to the top of Fermain Lane and then walk down. The 91, 92, 93, 94 or 95 bus service will pass here.

The other option would be to walk along the cliff path from St Peter Port,  through Bluebell woods until you reach Fermain. Head across the small bridge to your right when you reach the tower and head around the cliff from there. Look out for the stones with the carvings for directions of where to go.

You will want to take a left off the cliff path around 5 minutes or so into the walk and then you will take a further left at the sign for Marble Bay and follow the steps down.

Coming from Jerbourg, you will need to join the cliff path in front of the car park at the Jerbourg kiosk and follow the cliff path around to the left.

Why Should I go to Marble Bay?

If you want to go for a relaxing swim with no one else around, then Marble Bay is the place to go. Due to the long trek to get to the beach, it is not the most popular on the island therefore you may be lucky enough to have the beach to yourself when you go.

When Should I go to Marble Bay?

The best time to visit Marble Bay is at low tide as there will be more beach to play with then. At high tide, it is very rocky and there is no sand in sight. Being on the east side of the island, this bay is also the perfect place to watch the sunrise over the neighbouring islands of Herm and Sark.

Before You Leave for Guernsey

Before you leave on your trip to the beautiful island of Guernsey, there are a number of things you will need to organise to ensure a smooth and stress-free trip. These include what to pack, where to stay and what is the best travel insurance for Guernsey.

How to Get to Guernsey

Given that Guernsey is an island, you really have two choices of transport for getting there: plane or boat. Both of these transport methods are available from the UK, France and from the neighbouring Channel Islands.

Ferry to Guernsey

Condor is the best option for ferries to and from the Channel Islands from the mainland. Leaving from the mainland UK ports of Poole and Portsmouth, the French port of St Malo and the Channel Islands port of Jersey, there are two main ferries that will bring you to Guernsey.

The faster boat, known as the Liberation, takes 3 hours to get from Poole to Guernsey, while the slower boat, known as the Clipper, takes 7 hours from Portsmouth. From St Malo, it will take you just under 2 hours aboard the Rapide to reach Guernsey.

Browse all of Condor’s ferries and routes on their website here.

Fly to Guernsey

Flying to Guernsey can be done from multiple airports across the UK with the Channel Islands airline, Aurigny. This is the quickest and easiest way to get to the island if you are only coming for a short period of time.

You can browse all of the available flights and routes on the Aurigny website here.
