Where to Stay in Malta

Due to how small the island of Malta is, your choice of accommodation is huge. In our opinions, the best location to stay in Malta is in the small town of Sliema, just to the north of Valletta.

Sliema is central on the island, not far from the capital city of Valletta and the nightlife centre of St Julians, and it is also very affordable due to it being outside of these two areas. Here are the top accommodation options that we recommend for all ranges of budget.

Luxury – Even the most luxurious accommodation in Sliema is very reasonably priced, making it the perfect place to stay in Malta. The hotel AX The Palace sits just off the high street of Sliema and features luxuries such as a rooftop infity pool that overlooks the sea, as well as home comforts like AC and free wifi.

Visit The Blue Lagoon Early

One of the first things we learnt on our Blue Lagoon Malta tour was to arrive early. While some of our friends let us know beforehand about how the area gets jam-packed with visitors by noon, we came prepared and were ready to mark our own spot there.

We left for the Blue Lagoon early in the morning and arrived by noon. We weren’t expecting much on our arrival but there was some commotion and people were starting to arrive. To our surprise, the area got crowded within hours as everybody wanted to enjoy this beauty.

A pro tip for our fellow travellers is to book a boat early and stick to the timeline for a better experience.

While planning a trip, many visitors tend to forget that the amazing Blue Lagoon can be easily reached from Gozo and that too with maximum comfort.

Gozo is another beautiful island which tends to various globetrotters all year. Be A Guest At Popeye Village

You might have been a spectator of a famous and globally loved cartoon called “Popeye: The Sailor Man”. Taking the ideation of this cartoon further, in 1979, a movie was produced based on it and had its connection built with this island.

The movie’s set was designed keeping in mind of the area and hence, was established on this very island. The set’s wood was very much imported since Malta, itself doesn’t have any forest of its own.

Today, the set has many spectators who come here and get to live their childhood again. It definitely is a must-visit whilst exploring the Blue Lagoon Malta!

Enjoy Cliff Jumping

After you have explored the Blue Lagoon Malta, try visiting the Crystal Lagoon. Many tourists come here to enjoy their time in the blue water while they swim and dive and even jump off a cliff! This is quite a decision to enjoy the waters and still be amidst its beauty.

Nothing gets you closer to your location than this!

How to Prepare for Your Visit to Malta

Before you set off on your trip to Malta, there are a number of things you will need to organise to ensure a smooth and successful trip. These include what to pack for Malta and what is the best travel insurance for your trip. Both of these will be discussed in the following section.

What is the Best Travel Insurance?

I know travel insurance is the least enjoyable thing to purchase and look at when you’re planning a trip, however, you wouldn’t want to be without it in the event that something happened. Accidents can happen anywhere and the extortionate medical bills will ruin your trip if you are not covered.

To ensure you have a stress-free trip with no worries about potential medical bills, make sure you cover yourself when you travel. We can recommend using SafetyWing, a backpacker-friendly and cheap insurance company that provides good coverage and support. It is also nomad-friendly, unlike most other insurance companies, meaning you do not need to worry about being out of your home country for too long.

What Should You Pack for Malta?

What you need to pack for Malta will rely highly on when you make your trip there. During the Spring and Autumn months, temperatures and weather patterns vary wildly between beautiful sunny skies and rainy days. During the Summer, you are pretty much guaranteed nice weather with temperatures ranging from 20-35 oC. The hottest months are July and August, so these will be the most popular for a Summer holiday.

During the winter months in Malta, the rain will become more frequent and the temperatures will drop to between 10-20 oc. If you need more inspiration on what to pack for your trip, check out our full packing guides for all-weather conditions over here.

When it comes to toiletries, we recommend that you don’t forget to pack sunscreen. The sun in Malta is very strong, especially during the summer months. Apply a lot of suncream regularly to prevent a nasty burn from ruining your trip. We use this specific sunscreen to protect us as it is not as oily and irritating as other sunscreens.

Given the beautiful sights and scenery that you will see in Malta, we highly recommend packing a good camera for your trip. If you want to read more about the cameras we use and why we love them, check out the link below.
