Are you looking for a remote getaway in the woods for your next trip? Airdit Hill can offer you exactly that, a short drive from St Andrew’s on the east coast of Scotland. Recently we experienced a night in the new luxurious tree-house cabin and fell in love with this little corner of the world. The feeling where no one else is nearby and you are isolated in the middle of no where is incredibly freeing and the lack of wifi box or TV gives you the ability to switch off from the crazy world around us.
At Airdit Hill, you have the option to utilise the books, board games and facilities at the accommodation or you can get out and about and explore the local area during your stay. We will discuss these in more detail below.

Planning Your Trip
We use the below booking platforms to plan our trips. We hope you find them useful too!
Where is Airdit Hill?
Airdit Hill is located near St Andrew’s on the east coast of Scotland. After a short drive up the lane, you will arrive at the parking area in amongst the woodland. The treehouse is no more than a 10-minute walk from here so you may want to limit your baggage for ease of carrying. When you arrive you will realise just how isolated the treehouse is with beautiful surrounding forestry views and the sounds of the animals around you.
Admire the view from the Bedroom
The bedroom area features an extremely comfortable bed which sits in front of a large floor to ceiling length window looking out across the balcony and into the woodland in front of the cabin. The highlight of this area, however, is the skylight window which lies above the bed. Perfect for a night stargazing from the comfort and warmth of bed.
Relax in the Lounge
The lounge are overlooks a ceiling to floor length patio doors looking out to the woodland that surrounds the cabin. The comfortable couch also has a foot rest infront of it and a fire place in the corner, making this the perfect place to kick back, relax and read a view or lookout for the wildlife outside.
It’s worth noting that there is no wifi in Airdit Hill. We had a small amount of signal with Vodafone but not all network providers will work.
Chill out in the Bathtub
A highlight of your stay at Airdit Hill will surely be the outdoor bathtub. Surrounded by the trees and the chirping of birds or the stars above you, this is the perfect place to relax on your night away. Inside you will find dressing gowns that can be worn outside and hung up on the hooks beside the large bathtub. An add-on to your stay at this beautiful accommodation may be a yoga session or a massage or beauty treatment. Ask for more information about this when you are booking your stay if it is something that you want to include whilst you are here.
Admire the Bathroom
The bathroom took us back to being in Bali. The benefit of having no one else around you means that you can have a floor to ceiling length window in the bathroom, giving you the feeling of showering in nature. This wet room features a powerful waterfall shower and a light up mirror.
Cook up some grub in the Kitchen
The kitchen area comes complete with a small microwave oven and all of the amenities you could need to make your stay in the remote Airdit Hill a comfortable one. In the fridge you will find fresh milk and there will be small welcome pack on your arrival to the cabin as well. Beside the kitchen area is a small storage area where you will also find some yoga mats, perfect for if you are thinking of doing some exercise during your stay at Airdit Hill
How to Prepare for your Trip to St Andrews
Before you set off on your way to St Andrews, there are a number of things you will need to get organised to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. These include what to pack, where to stay and what is the best insurance for your trip to Scotland. All of this is discussed in detail below.
How to Get to St Andrews
One of the most popular ways to get to Sta Andrews is by driving as it takes no longer than a couple of hours from Glasgow and even less from Edinburgh. Leuchars train station serves St Andrews and there are also coach services that stop in St Andrews as well if you are looking for a cheaper option.
What to Pack for Your Trip to St Andrews
When it comes to packing for a trip to Scotland there is one item of clothing that you are going to need all year round: a waterproof. It rains in Scotland on average 250 days a year, meaning that during your trip to St Andrews, you can expect rain at some point. Due to this, the number one item on your packing list is a good waterproof jacket.
Second to that, another item to not leave home without is a good pair of warm and, if possible, waterproof boots.
You will definitely need a hat and gloves during the winter months as the wind chill can be bitter.
Given the beautiful sights and scenery that you are no doubt going to see around St Andrews, we highly recommend packing a good camera for your trip. If you want to read more about the cameras we use and why we love them, check out the link below.

What is the Best Travel Insurance for Scotland
I know travel insurance is the least enjoyable thing to purchase and look at when you’re planning a trip, however, you wouldn’t want to be without it in the event that something happened. Accidents can happen anywhere and the extortionate medical bills will ruin your trip if you are not covered.
To ensure you have a stress-free trip with no worries about potential medical bills, make sure you cover yourself when you travel. We can recommend using SafetyWing, a backpacker-friendly and cheap insurance company that provides good coverage and support. It is also nomad-friendly, unlike most other insurance companies, meaning you do not need to worry about being out of your home country for too long.
